Do you find yourself thanking God; when you’re faced with trials, and tribulations? If we can be honest, many of us don’t purpose to find the good in EVERYTHING.
We either respond with being: happy, excited, worried, gripped with fear or anxiety. And too many times we respond first and pray last.
And let’s not get this twisted. We are no exception. In fact, about 10 years ago when we faced the most challenging financial times of our life, we learned this very principle.
One fall evening we went to make dinner, and the stove wasn’t working. After 30 minutes of trying to get it to work, we decided to call the Gas Company to make sure they received our payment. The customer-service rep told us that they received the payment, unfortunately they received it after they scheduled the turn off. In order to turn it back on, we would have to go down to their office and a re-connection fee in cash.
We were barely able to make the payment let alone a connection fee. However, the biggest hurdle that night, was to find a way to have dinner. We had no stove, food that couldn’t be eaten without cooking it, no money, and two kids.
As we looked at our refrigerator contemplating what to do, we noticed our handwritten note that was taped to the front of our refrigerator.
“Thanking God in everything will get you through anything!”
And that night, we decided to turn the night into a picnic on the family room floor. We were going to have to put our pride aside, and call family to ask for assistance in ordering pizza.
We put a blanket down, and ordered pizza. The kids had a blast! They didn’t even know the gas was turned off. Our kids thought it was super cool to have a picnic on the floor and pizza for dinner.
The next morning we went down to the Gas Company. After explaining the situation,God granted us favor. We were able to have the gas turned back on without having to pay any additional fees. When we’re in the midst of a situation; we may need to stop to praise God. And find something to be thankful for.
We have to make up in our mind, that we will CHOOSE to turn lemons into lemonade!
The next night as we were sitting around the table having a home cook meal, the kids made a comment about how our picnic on the floor was better. It’s funny how God will use situations in our lives to show us how good He is, contrary to how bad we think we have it.
This week as we get ready to celebrate Thanksgiving, spend a few moments thanking God for all He has done, is doing or will do in your life. When we learn to be grateful, in whatever state we are in; that is when, we discover that choosing to thank God in everything will get you through anything!
“I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.”
