Finding yourself stressed about: money, relationships, work, traffic, or even your health?
Could you imagine life without worry? Well, you should because worrying is a choice, and you can decide not to let the cares of this world effect you physically, emotionally and even spiritually.
When we lost all that we had, we were worried about many things; money, food, our home, and our children. It’s easy to quote Bible scriptures when things are going well. But when life throws you a curve ball, that’s when your faith is put to the test, and you find out what you really believe.
During that time, we were searching for scriptures to meditate on. Although we were worried, we were desperately seeking God. As we were reading through scriptures, one scripture, in particular, stood out.
“Peace I leave with you; My [own] peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.]” ~ John 14:27 (AMPC)
Notice it says: “do not let your hearts be troubled, stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed.” That means, YOU do not let your heart be troubled. YOU stop allowing yourself to be agitated and disturbed. If it wasn’t possible for us to do, Jesus wouldn’t have told us.
In reality, that means if we are worried, or stressed, it’s because we allowed ourselves to be. That stood out to us so clearly, that we began to write that scripture on an index card and had it readily available every time we would feel worried or stressed.
When we found ourselves worried about a matter, we began to tell ourselves; we will not be concerned, we will not allow ourselves to be agitate or disturbed. We will not allow our heart to be troubled. At first, it did just seem like empty words. But, when we started to believe it and consistently confessed it over ourselves every time we were faced with an opportunity to worry, we began to see God move on our behalf.
When we made an offer on the home, we currently live in, we were told by the agent that the offer we submitted was similar to a previous offer that the seller just declined. I remember telling the agent, thank you for letting us know, but we would like to submit the offer anyway.
We prayed about it, and we chose to not be concerned or troubled with the outcome. We did our part and trusted God for the rest. Within 24 hours, the agent called and said the seller accepted our offer. He was puzzled as to why considering our offer was no different than the previous offer the seller rejected.
We knew why. That was just like our God to show us, you don’t need to worry about the details, I am in the details. You only need to trust me and I will work on your behalf!
The cares of this world can easily weigh a person down, but when we truly realize who is in control, we will have no worries.
