When we switched to a plant-based diet, trying to find replacements for some of our family’s favorite foods was a chore. However, Vegan Hot Chocolate wasn’t one of them. Especially since I discovered I only need three ingredients.
Vegan Hot Chocolate
I knew for my family to get on board with a plant-based diet, I was going to have to find replacements that taste like the real thing! But look out – once mama got going, I was on a roll!
Gathering around the kitchen counter with hot chocolate after school in the winter was our custom. The kids looked forward to coming home to drink something warm, and I looked forward to hearing about their day.
To keep up with our tradition, I figured out a simple recipe for Vegan Hot Chocolate.
1 Tablespoon Cocoa Powder
1 Tablespoon Sugar
1/2 Tablespoon Vegan Chocolate Chips
Pour one cup of non-dairy milk (soy, coconut, almond, etc,) in a pot and add cocoa powder, sugar, and vegan chocolate chips. Simmer on medium heat, and stir until melted at your desired temperature.
If you’re like us and want to add some pizzaz to your hot chocolate, consider adding 1/8 tsp of peppermint extract, some vegan marshmallows, or almond or coconut milk whip cream.
You can even add a few vegan chocolate chips on top of the whip cream too! Are your creative juices flowing yet?
Vegan Hot Chocolate Pods
Last year, our daughter asked me to buy packets of hot chocolate. I asked her why, because the packets in the store are not vegan and I make it fresh?
She said; “because when you’re not home I want to make some myself.”
So doing what I do, I decided to buy 2 oz. condiments cups and measured out the ingredients, creating our own Vegan Hot Chocolate Pods.
Now all you have to do is pour one cup of milk in a pot on the stove, pour one of the pods in the milk and stir until melted!
Gifting Hot Chocolate
Our vegan hot chocolate pods were such a hit in our family, I decided to make them as gifts, especially during Christmas.
If you know me, I couldn’t make these without a gift tag with instructions and the recipe!! Aren’t they cute?
