Have you felt a nudge in your spirit that you’ve been called to ministry?
Let us clarify this. Do you have a desire to share how Jesus Christ has changed your life, but you’re not sure what that looks like?
Am I Called To Ministry?
The Bible tells us that there are various gifts of ministry such as; Teachers, Pastors, Evangelists, and the Gifts of Prophecy, just to name a few.
“Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. 12 Their responsibility is too equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. 13 This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ.”
~ Ephesians 4:11-13 {NLT}
And when most people talk about being called to ministry, they’re usually referring to these gifts of ministry or even the offices of ministry. For example, the office of deacon, elder, or administrator.
However, what we’re talking about today, is identifying our call to the ministry of reconciliation.
“Therefore if any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come! 18 But all things are from God, Who through Jesus Christ reconciled us to Himself [received us into favor, brought us into harmony with Himself] and gave to us the ministry of reconciliation [that by word and deed we might aim to bring others into harmony with Him].” ~ 2 Corinthians 5:17-18 {AMPC}
Ministry of Reconciliation
If you’re a believer in Jesus Christ, then you have been called to the ministry of reconciliation.
Not everyone is called into full time ministry, but all of us are called to the ministry of reconciliation. All of us have a testimony of how Jesus Christ has changed our life.
In our weakness, God’s strength in us, is seen in the world. And the only way for others to hear about God’s goodness in our life is by sharing our story with others.

You see, people won’t intentionally go seeking for Jesus, but they are seeking for what Jesus provides. And that is our opportunity to share Him in a tangible way.
By simply sharing our story with others who are living in darkness, opens the door to shine God’s light.
The Bible tells us that we are to be the LIGHT to this dark world. And we shine His light, by the way we speak, and the way we behave and how we share our testimony.
“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” ~ Matthew 5:14-16 {NKJV}
It really is that simple. When you recognize you’ve been called to the ministry of reconciliation, your next step is to take your story to the mission field.
Identifying Your Mission Field
The mission field is as vast as the harvest. The Bible says that the harvest is plenty but the laborers are few.
However, we can make ourselves available as a laborer, by not limiting in our mind what the mission field looks like.
Please don’t misunderstand what we’re saying. There are indeed those who have been called to the mission field in other countries. Our dear sister in Christ, Lisa Yvonne over at Graceful Abandon, her entire family has been called to the mission field in Ukraine.
But, what we’re trying to convey today is that you don’t have to be called to Ukraine for God to use you in the ministry of reconciliation.
You can labor in the mission field right where you are. You can purpose to be the light in your home, with your neighbors, in the workplace, with family and friends, at school, in a grocery store, or even online through social media or a website (blog).
“But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.” ~ 1 Peter 2:9 {NLT}
YES, YOU! You are a chosen people of God, and have a responsibility to be the LIGHT in this dark world.
People may not be able to comprehend Jesus Christ, whom they cannot see. But they can comprehend your life story and how Jesus Christ has changed your life.
Our Call To Ministry
If you’ve been following us for a while, then you may remember from reading our story that it was our mentors who taught us about living within the priorities of God.
When they were called to start a church we felt led to co-labored alongside of them because we wanted to duplicate what they did for us with others.
However, just shortly after starting the church, both of our mentors went home to be with the Lord.
As a church we were faced with; now what?
To our surprise when we attended a board meeting to discuss dissolving the church, we felt a conviction in our hearts to step in and lead our church.
We did not know for how long or what that would like. All we knew was that in a still small voice we heard; “just because our mentors passed away did not mean our assignment was over.”
There was no thought or plan on how to lead a church that was broken from having both their pastors go home to be with the Lord.
With no shame, we will be the first to say we felt unequipped, and scared. But honestly, we were more scared to step outside of God’s will for our life, than to do what He was asking us to do.
As a result of obeying that still small voice, God brought the help we needed; through relationships with other Pastors, and resources to equip us in our teaching.
It’s been five years now that we’ve been leading our church, and to see the personal growth in our people blesses us beyond measure. And we often wonder what our life would look like today, if we walked away from walking out on water?
(On a side note; when thinking back to that moment the song that comes to mind is; Walk On Waves. Have you heard it? If you’re being led to walk on waves, take a few minutes to listen to this song.)
Our Mission Field
It wasn’t too long after we made the decision to follow God where we realized, our call to the ministry of reconciliation was bigger than the four walls of our church.
We knew in order to share our testimony and help as many families as possible, we were going to have to expand our reach.
For years we journaled our journey through difficult times. And as we sought God for direction, He placed it on our hearts to turn our journals into a blog.
You may be wondering, why a blog?
Well, by utilizing the internet we had access to the world wide web. Did you catch that? The WORLD WIDE WEB. In which we quickly learned that the Internet became our mission field.
Through this blog, we’ve had the opportunity to reach thousands around the world. By sharing what Jesus Christ has done in our life.
And although God placed this desire on our heart’s, we had to learn how to use the internet to help us reach people.
So we sought God for wisdom and He led us to a course that taught us how to use the Internet to share the message God placed on our heart.
God led us to Christ-Centered resources, as well as a community of Christ-Minded bloggers to help us encourage and pray for one another.
By utilizing the tools God led us to, we are able to reach thousands of people around the world; inspiring them to live within the priorities of God.
In The End
We all have a redemptive story to share. The way we share our story may look different than yours. But what should look the same is sharing the message of Jesus Christ.
There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord.
~ 1 Corinthians 12:5 {NLT}
We are living in a time where the gospel is more accessible than any other time in history; through the power of the Internet. And this is what makes our opportunity to answer the call to the ministry of reconciliation easier than ever before.
Whether God has called you to share your story on; social media, in the workplace, or even in your own family, don’t hesitate to answer the call! The truth is, you may be the only Jesus people see.
So the answer to the question you’ve been called to ministry now what is this…
SHARE YOU STORY!
It’s that simple. Now tell us, how will you answer the call to the ministry of reconciliation?
PIN FOR LATER
Every time I read your blog posts my heart is touched by God’s great love and grace for me! This post has shown me I have two great areas that God has called me to ministry. The first and most important is to my family. My wife and I each have three grown children that still live among the stormy waves of life. All six of them look to me as Daddy. But I’ve not been the leader in my family I was called to be. Now, He has shown me these six dear children are my first mission field.
The second calling I believe God has shown me is the same as he showed to you, Andre and Timberley. He has called me to be a mentor to younger men using the Internet.
A few months ago I felt overwhelmed. I was trying to speak truth into several younger men God had placed in my life. My age, energy, and other practical restrictions were causing me to see that I couldn’t reach every young man on a person to person level. It was then I sensed that He was calling me to write a blog just for Christian men who are dissatisfied with their walk with Jesus.
I’m running scared. These two ministries are again overwhelming this old man who wants to please God. Please keep me in your prayers as I try to obedient to these callings from Him and that I’ll find others who will walk along side as I reach out to my children and encourage me that I can write a blog that will truly reach other men to share my story with.
Thank you folks so much!
Thank up Gary for those kind words and your encouragement. WOW! First and foremost you are on the right track with your priorities about making your wife a priority next to God, and then your family. Your first ministry begins at home, so you are right where off to a great start.
Secondly, what a ministry you have waiting to be shared with young men for such a time as this. Running scared with the fear of the Lord is the only fear we should have. With that mindset, you are on the right page my brother. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us for help. We will help anyway we an. The Bible tells us that iron sharpens iron, so we would love to help point you in the right direction as you begin your online ministry. ~ Blessings my brother
Good word. And love this thought, “You see, people won’t intentionally go seeking for Jesus, but they are seeking for what Jesus provides. And that is our opportunity to share Him in a tangible way.”
How great the Lord spoke to you both to lead the church. And I agree with the sentiments here. We are all called to a ministry of reconciliation and the mission “field.” We also lead a church ministry, pastor and wife. And I blog, speak and write. Still further, I went to Zimbabwe for a summer to minister about Jesus and reconciliation, and my husband has been to Hungary and Germany for ministry. But even now, we have a mission field outside the church walls. Everyone does. It may not be across the ocean. It may be crossing the street to connect with our neighbor and share Jesus at some point. It may be crossing the hall at work for some of us. Or crossing a school campus with the ministry of reconciliation burning in our hearts.
Amen Karen. I love that, our mission field may not be across the ocean but across the street! Thank you for stopping by to read, and may God to continue to bless you and your husband as you labor in the mission field. ~ Blessings
You both are such an inspiration! All the things you both strive to do in ministry, in your marriage, with your blog, and with your family is so inspiring. Your marriage and discipleship to others brings such a global effect! I am so thamkful to such a image of Christ through this blog!
Thank you Carmen for your encouraging words. That is our prayer to help leave a mark on others pointing them to Christ. And thank you for sowing into the faith niche for the online mission field. Love your book! ~ Blessings
