“You guys look like the perfect couple with the perfect family!” So we’ve been told. Oh how we wish that were true; but like every family, we have our flaws!
We are not perfect by any means, and neither are our kids. Truth be told, we face the same challenges as most families. We knew that once we stepped into the ministry, the enemy would try even harder to tear down our: marriage, our health, our finances, and our kids. However, when we’re not ignorant of the enemy’s devices, he cannot use them against us.
As our children grew older, we realized it was going to take more than a spanking or grounding them to help guide them on the right path. Back in the day, we grew up with parents who didn’t hesitate to put a woopin’ on us when we acted up. Now-a-days, society has us watching our backs while we try to render our kids according to the Word of God.
Not too long ago, we realized, in addition to having teachable moments with our kids; we also needed to commit them to the Lord in our daily prayers and make positive confessions over them. These confessions are not just for today. We’re also speaking life into their future.
While seeking God for His help, we came across several scriptures that we use to pray / confess over our children, and we want to share 10 of them with you.
Train up a child in the way he should go [teaching him to seek God’s wisdom and will for his abilities and talents], Even when he is old he will not depart from it.
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: 3 “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.” 4 And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.
Even children are known by the way they act, whether their conduct is pure, and whether it is right.
I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.
So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.
Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
The Lord bless thee, and keep thee.
Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?
You might be thinking how can we pray these scriptures over our kids? Good question, at the end of this blog, we’ve provided you with a link to download a prayer we came up with using these scriptures and a few others.
There are so many scriptures we can use to stand on regarding our children but these are just a few that spoke to our hearts. Whether you use these or you find others, we encourage you to write them down and write a prayer or confession from those scriptures. Then, start praying them over your children daily, right now!
Whether you have toddlers, teenagers, or young adult children, your prayers matter. One thing we’ve learned in all our years of seeking God, is that when you don’t know what to do, just…PRAY!
“You don’t have to be a perfect parent. But you do need to be a praying parent.”
